The Revolution Of LI Fi Technology Products

By Melissa Young

University of Edinburgh professor, Harald Haas was the sole responsible for coining the term Li-Fi. During a TED talk back in 2011, he had the idea of light bulbs doubling up as a wireless router. The next year his research and vision were realized as he set up his company called PureLiFi with the intention of being a leader in li fi technology products and communication speed.

Light fidelity works much the same way as the Wi-Fi system except for the fact that light waves are used. Basically, information is taken in by the light bulb due to special signaling technology. Thereafter information is sent very quickly to the photo-detector. The dimming of the LED bulbs is then changed into electrical signals. This signal is thereafter reconverted videos, audios, and information that work on devices that can connect to the internet.

Light fidelity technology has jumped onto the popularity bandwagon with a big boom. The creators of those appliances, Pure-Li-Fi have begun to join forces with French lighting companies such as Lucibel to launch their head-turning creation. The Pure-Li-Fi company has since launched products which allow for li-fi connections to be established.

The light fidelity system is known for its speed. With 224 gigabytes per second download rate, its undeniable that the li-fi system has changed the way we chose to connect to the internet. The speed rate alone is enough to be a deciding factor in choosing the li-fi system or the Wi-Fi that we are used to. We ought to remember with every perk, there are downfalls too and the li-fi system as promising as it may seem is in no way without downfalls.

The major setback of using that system is the need to harness visible light for the system to actually work. The light signal can in no way pass through walls so needless to say LED light bulbs to have to be connected throughout the entire house to ensure connectivity. For connectivity to occur the light bulbs or LED lights to need to be switched on meaning that even in daylight, lights would need to remain on to ensure connectivity.

The use of the li-fi system as opposed to the common Wi-Fi means that many security issues based on overcrowded and overloaded broadband networks will be eliminated.

The theorem behind which li-fi was created entails the idea that with li-fi the possibilities are unlimited. This means that where ever there happens to be LED lighting, there happens to be connectivity and data. The li-fi system is based upon the idea that it will extend wireless connections far beyond its current reach. This system seeks to establish safe connections even in environments you cannot even begin to imagine.

With advancements being done to both Wi-Fi and the Li-Fi connectivity system it s hard to chose the better option between the two. Li-Fi has promised to evolve and better the way we receive and disseminate information and data. Light fidelity may certainly be one way forward towards connection advancements, ease, and speed of downloads. Haas and his company believe that Li-Fi will solve issues of energy efficiency, availability, capacity, and speed, and we all are waiting for that.
