The Responsibilities And Characteristics Of A Scrum Instructor

By Catherine Burns

For every project that is run, there must be a project manager who will make sure that everything goes as planned. Also, there are so many other components of the project that help in meeting the deadline. A CSM is usually tasked with so many roles in a project to make sure that the desired milestones have been achieved. Therefore, this professional should be able to motivate the entire team and various stakeholders. He/she is thus an essential part of the project. Below are some of the qualities and responsibilities of a Scrum Instructor.

This professional must be collaborative. He should, therefore, form all the necessary links between the project teams and the product owner. The owner of the project will drive the team towards the delivery of the goals. On the other hand, the CSM will nurture the team and create a successful collaboration to meet the goals of the client. This professional thus encourages the teams and makes critical decisions.

Additionally, this expert facilitates his team around the clock. He does not manage the project as he is not the project owner but ensures that the team is okay. He takes note of the efforts of the team and any challenges they might be facing. He looks for ways to make their work easier and sees to it that all team members are doing their job. Therefore, he is the primary facilitator for the team.

This professional should have knowledge about the project and discipline. Therefore, he should have the skills to solve upcoming issues and prevent future problems. For the CSM to be able to handle the issues and prevent any problems in the future, he should be knowledgeable about the product. Also, he should think of ways that the team can work to avoid any challenges and roadblocks.

This person should have an influential character. He should be a person that the team wants to emulate. This is because he is a leader of the team and the first person any member of the team approaches in case of problems. With the right influence on people, the professional can easily encourage them to work hard so that the visions and goals of the project are achieved.

This expert also has various responsibilities that help in project management. He is the person who coaches teams in project management practices. More so, he creates the teams and sees to it that the organization has integrated them. He outlines the visions and goal of the project to the team members before the work kicks off.

At the end of each day during the project, the CSM meets with the entire team. These meetings are essential as the team will get information and updates from the project manager. The CSM will also be updated on the proceedings of the day. Additionally, he addresses issues that may have arisen.

The expert also ensures that he/she has introduced modern engineering practices that will make the project a success. He will teach the team to use automated builds to improve project efficiency. He will thus make sure that the team knows how to use modern technologies to deliver the desired results.
